The earliest record of a McWhorter in Washington County (Pa) is that of Robert McWhorter in Finley Township in 1800. A brother, William, is listed in 1806, another brother, Henry, in 1811. There is no documentary record of a third brother, John, who died about 1803. A sister, Margaret married John Toland about 1803. There were several McWhorter-Toland intermarriages. These McWhorters were likely children of William McWhorter who is listed in Paxton Township, now Dauphin County (Pa) 1768-1778 and in Hopewell Township, Cumberland County (Pa) 1779-179-. Beside William in the 1790 census (2 2 4) is his brother, Robert (1 2 4). This Robert was born in Bucks County (Pa) in 1747 and was taxed in Paxton 1771-1780. He was living in Washington County, Indiana in 1833, See his Revolutionary Pension Application S16195. Both William and Robert served in the militia at Paxton 1777-1779. They may have been sons of William McWhorter, Sr. taxed at Paxton 1770, and grandsons of Robert, taxed at Besalem Township, Bucks County 1744. WILLIAM McWHORTER b. c1745 Bucks Co.
